La vicepresidenta de la República, Raquel Peña, anunció la entrega del remozamiento del Club Deportivo Gregorio Urbano Gilbert (GUG) en Santiago, una instalación que estuvo abandonada por más de 20 años.
Luis Felipe López, presidente del GUG y miembro inmortal del deporte, destacó el gran cambio deportivo y social que está realizando el presidente Abinader.
La obra, realizada a un costo de RD$ 19,656,421.87, en las instalaciones del GUG, se colocaron baños nuevos en el segundo nivel y en la primera planta, incluyendo aparatos sanitarios, cerámica, granito, puertas, ventanas y pintura, y una instalación eléctrica general.
«El presidente Luis Abinader nos ha encomendado llevar el deporte a los barrios para que pueda servir de vía para que los niños y jóvenes encuentren un espacio e incentivarlos para que se mantengan en el camino educativo, deportivo y de respeto a sus padres», dijo el ministro de Deportes, Francisco Camacho.
Además, se instalaron un tabloncillo de madera maple para baloncesto aprobado por la International Basketball Federation (FIBA), remozamiento de gradas, camerinos, oficinas y cafetería y se realizó mantenimiento a la estructura metálica, colocación de canaletas, remozamiento en el área de la escuela de judo, y baños y oficinas en el edificio 1.
Además de la vicepresidenta Raquel Peña y el ministro de Deportes, Francisco Camacho, en el acto de inauguración estuvieron presentes la gobernadora provincial, Rosa María Santos, el alcalde de Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez; el senador de Santiago, Eduardo Estrella; el senador electo por esa provincia, Daniel Rivera; los viceministros de Deportes, Franklin De la Mota, Kennedy Vargas y Juan Vila Reynoso; el secretario general del Comité Olímpico Dominicano, Luis Chanlatte.
