ProDominicana fortalece lazos comerciales con Asia durante el Foro de Inversión de Asean

DIARIO ULTRAMAR, SANTO DOMINGO, RD.- En el marco de una misión estratégica por el continente asiático, ProDominicana participó en el Foro de Inversión de la Asociación de Naciones del Sudeste Asiático (ASEAN) en Vientián, Laos. Este importante evento, organizado por la Secretaría de la Asean y la Comisión Económica y Social de las Naciones Unidas para Asia y el Pacífico (Cespap), reunió a funcionarios gubernamentales, líderes empresariales e inversionistas de toda la región para discutir nuevas oportunidades de inversión y cooperación económica.
El foro de este año se centró en el lanzamiento del Plan de Acción Regional de Inversión de la Asean 2025-2030, una estrategia clave para promover y atraer inversión extranjera directa. Contó con la participación del director de Inversión del Centro de Exportación e Inversión de la República Dominicana (ProDominicana), Marcial Smester, junto con un selecto grupo de Agencias de Promoción a las Inversiones.
Smester destacó la importancia de la participación de ProDominicana en este evento, acentuando el compromiso del país con la expansión en mercados emergentes y la adopción de innovaciones tecnológicas que están revolucionando la región asiática.
“El Foro de la Asean proporcionó una plataforma ideal para establecer contactos valiosos con socios potenciales, comprender las últimas tendencias del mercado asiático y explorar colaboraciones en áreas clave como Tecnología de la Información y las Comunicaciones (TIC), Inteligencia Artificial, Economía Digital y Energías Renovables”, explicó el funcionario.
Para el período 2019-2023, el intercambio comercial de República Dominicana con Malasia fue de USD 264.8 millones, siendo el 79.3 % correspondiente a importaciones de bienes y el restante 20.7 % a las exportaciones. En 2023, hubo incremento en el intercambio comercial con Malasia debido al aumento de las exportaciones de cacao en grano.
Para el período acumulado de enero-agosto 2024, el intercambio comercial de República Dominicana con Malasia fue de USD47.9 millones, con el 53.7 % correspondiente a importaciones de bienes y el restante 46.3 % a las exportaciones.
Entre los principales productos exportados en 2023 se encuentran: cacao en grano, entero o partido, crudo o tostado, desperdicios y desechos de cobre, cigarros «puros». despuntados y cigarritos «puritos», que contengan tabaco. Entre los principales productos importados están el alambre de bobinar, para electricidad, de cobre, aislado; sellos o estampillas de correos, timbres fiscales y análogos, sin obliterar, de los tipos utilizados con fines médicos, quirúrgicos, odontológicos o veterinarios.
Visitas estratégicas y exploración de oportunidades en Malasia
Como parte de la misión, los ejecutivos de ProDominicana visitaron la Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) y la Zona Franca de Port Klang, una de las más grandes del mundo. En estas visitas, también exploraron las operaciones de empresas líderes como Cargill, Microsoft, Aerodyne y Shell, en el reconocido ecosistema empresarial de CiberJaya.
Las visitas permitieron a la delegación conocer de primera mano las ventajas competitivas de Malasia, que incluyen una infraestructura de primer nivel, un capital humano altamente calificado y un entorno empresarial favorable. La misión comercial refuerza el compromiso de la República Dominicana de expandir su presencia en el continente asiático.
Además, los contactos establecidos y los conocimientos adquiridos durante la misión serán fundamentales para el desarrollo de futuras colaboraciones y proyectos en Asia, con lo cual se consolida ProDominicana como un actor clave en la atracción de inversiones para el país.
