La vicepresidenta de la República, Raquel Peña, junto a representantes de la Organización de Aviación Civil Internacional (OACI), inauguraron el Simposio Global de Apoyo a la Implementación de la OACI (GISS) en Punta Cana, República Dominicana. En este evento, el director del Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil (IDAC), Héctor Porcella, agradeció a la OACI por seleccionar al país como sede del simposio, destacando el compromiso del gobierno dominicano con la excelencia y la innovación en la industria aeronáutica.
El general de brigada piloto Floreal Suárez Martínez, de la Fuerza Aérea de la República Dominicana (FARD), estuvo presente en la actividad en calidad de director general del Cuerpo Especializado en Seguridad Aeroportuaria y de la Aviación Civil (CESAC).Su participación resalta el compromiso del sector de la aviación civil en el país con la seguridad aeroportuaria y el aporte al cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), en particular el número 9: «Industria, innovación e infraestructura», al promover la eficiencia del transporte aéreo y garantizar la seguridad de los ciudadanos, también el ODS número 17: «Alianza para lograr los objetivos».
El simposio aborda temas clave para el desarrollo sostenible de la aviación civil, desde la modernización de infraestructuras aeroportuarias hasta la capacitación del capital humano adaptado a las demandas del futuro.
Además, se discuten propuestas como la iniciativa «Finvest Hub» de la OACI, que busca aumentar la colaboración entre el sector de la aviación y las instituciones financieras para alcanzar la descarbonización de la aviación para 2050.
