SAN SALVADOR, 28 ene (EFE).- El Salvador se encuentra a una semana de las elecciones presidenciales y legislativas, que se celebrarán bajo la medida del régimen de excepción y que estarán marcadas por la polémica candidatura del presidente Nayib Bukele, a quien las encuestas vaticinan una clara victoria, en busca de la reelección.
El próximo domingo se celebrarán dichos comicios y entre los candidatos a la Presidencia está Bukele, por el partido oficialista Nuevas Ideas (NI).
De acuerdo con diversas encuestas, Bukele ganaría estas elecciones con un holgado porcentaje sobre los candidatos del izquierdista Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN), Manuel Flores, y de la derechista Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena), Joel Sánchez.
El partido de Bukele, dirigido por su primo Xavier Zablah Bukele, también continuaría teniendo la mayoría en la Asamblea Legislativa, según los sondeos, al lograr 55 diputaciones de 60, con lo que también seguiría siendo la primera fuerza política del país.

Son más de 5,5 millones de ciudadanos los convocados a participar en los comicios, en los que, de ganar, Bukele sería el primero en repetir en el cargo a pesar de que la Constitución no lo permite.
El camino a la reelección de Bukele se abrió en 2021, cuando la Sala de lo Constitucional de la Corte Suprema, que había sido nombrada por el Congreso de mayoría oficialista sin seguir el procedimiento legal, cambió un criterio de interpretación de la Constitución.
El último antecedente de un presidente que buscó la reelección inmediata en El Salvador se dio bajo la dictadura de Maximiliano Hernández Martínez, quien gobernó entre 1931 y 1944.
Bukele ha llamado a los salvadoreños a votar por él y por su partido para continuar la «guerra contra las pandillas», con la implementación de un polémico régimen de excepción que, según organizaciones humanitarias, violenta derechos.
El Congreso de El Salvador, de amplia mayoría oficialista, aprobó el pasado 9 de enero la vigésima segunda ampliación de la medida, que suspende garantías constitucionales y que está vigente desde marzo de 2022 tras una escalada de homicidios atribuido a las pandillas o maras.
Dicha medida, que se ha convertido en la única acción de seguridad contra las pandillas, ha consolidado la popularidad de Bukele entre la población, sobre todo entre las personas que habitan en barrios y comunidades populosas históricamente golpeadas por el accionar de las maras.
La elección de presidente del 4 de febrero será la séptima desde la firma de los Acuerdos de Paz en 1992, que representaron el fin de la guerra civil que El Salvador vivió desde 1980 y que dejó 75.000 muertos y 8.000 desaparecidos.
